Static Energy partnered with AuVert Mining Group to create a time-sensitive 1200Amp E-House, inside of a sea can.

Static Energy worked with Alberta Distillers to upgrade an ageing control system that would help take their process to the next level and keep them ahead of the competition.
Alberta Distillers was founded in 1946 by Max Bell and Frank McMahon (whose names live on at McMahon Stadium and the Max Bell Arena and Max Bell Theatre.) Based in Calgary, Alberta Distillers is the world’s largest producer of rye whiskey and has received many accolades over the years for its products that are sold globally.
Alberta Distillers has been incredibly successful over the years, but an ageing control system created two major problems for the company. The need for continual maintenance and repairs was becoming increasingly expensive and expansion capability was limited due to the hardware in place. A complete upgrade would be necessary in order to stay innovative and ahead of the competition and our team at Static Energy was ready to help take our partners to the next level. Static recognized a need for the project to be completed in phases and had four weeks to complete the project or there would be major financial penalties.
A project of this magnitude requires a lot of planning and preparation with all parties involved, so we worked closely with the engineering team at Langtree Controls to ensure success. PLC control panels located throughout the plant needed to be removed and Static installed ControlLogix PLC’s along with all corresponding I/O cards and cables as replacements. We re-tagged and re-terminated 1100 field devices throughout the plant, including various flows, temperatures, level and pressure transmitters, as well we added air actuated valves to improve automation in the process.
Due to the time-sensitive nature of the project, preparation and planning were key to achieving the desired outcome. Together with all partners involved, we were able to successfully complete both phases of the project – not only on time and on budget with no safety incidents to report, but commissioning and start-up of the plant was completed ahead of schedule. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with such an innovative company and look forward to their continued growth and success.
“In 2017 Static was the primary electrical contractor to complete a key PLC upgrade at Alberta Distillers Ltd involving replacing eight redundant PLC5 controllers (over 1000 tagged devices) with the latest Control Logix system from Rockwell/Allen Bradley. This was a time sensitive project due to the downtime. Static worked very well with the Engineering team (Langtree) and local electricians and completed the work on time and on budget.”
